Burj Khalifa is the tallest man-made structure ever built, at 2,716.5 ft. This steel, glass and reinforced concrete tower was constructed between 2004 and 2010, led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill architects.
Burj Khalifa was commissioned to help Dubai diversify from an oil-based economy to one that is service and tourism focused.
BLE Smoke & Fire FC180™ protective curtains were designed to be discrete and provide protection to the buildings within the requirements of international standards.
LANCASTER UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
BLE Smoke & Fire was approached directly by Lancaster University to supply eight Fire Curtains for the Central Library on their main campus.
As part of their fire strategy plan, four large FC180™ curtains were needed in the library’s main reception - to protect the library’s main fire escape route.
An additional four small curtains were also required for the upper levels, to prevent the spread of fire upwards through the library.
When the MIT, a world-leading centre of scientific excellence, commissioned a new Brain and Cognitive Sciences Complex the institute selected a smoke protection system from BLE Smoke & Fire Curtains to be installed.
BLE Smoke & Fire SC60™ protective curtains were designed and engineered into the smoke management system to suit the challenging architecture. Automatic smoke curtains were used to create smoke zones around the building, incorporating stage descents to ensure protected means of escape throughout the complex.
BLE Smoke & Fire manufactured all of the equipment, ensuring that the invaluable research undertaken at the MIT Brain and Cognitive Sciences Complex is protected against smoke for years to come.
US EMBASSY LONDON
Located in Nine Elms, South West London, the new US Embassy is quickly becoming one of the most talked about developments in recent memory. Developed specifically to provide a much higher level of security than ever before, including bollards, ditches and a reflective pool that doubles as a moat.
BLE Smoke & Fire were tasked to supply and install a number of FC60™ Fire Curtains for the elevators on each floor of the Embassy. The project presented several new challenges for BLE’s team of installation experts, from the high levels of security onsite, to having to co-ordinate with the building’s unique architectural design.
An iconic part of the New York skyline since 1761, the Beekman Hotel combines traditional architecture with luxury accommodation.
BLE Smoke & Fire supplied SC60™ Smoke Curtains (UL Specification) for use in the hotel. This was a challenging project for all involved but BLE Smoke & Fire manufactured ultra-compact housings with varying headbox sizes to preserve the historic features of the building.
